Perhaps one of the best benefits of working for myself at my San Diego Window Cleaning company, is that I get to be the boss. When you work for your self you call the shots and make the important decisions like how best to run the business. Believe me I know, when I worked as a graphic designer I had lots of ideas as to how to design new products and ways to improve the media business that my boss ran. Nevertheless none of my ideas were considered, just an occasional “un huh un huh, keep up the good work!” It was very frustrating designing awesome logos and websites only to have them dumb down by someone else in the business, or to have others who have no idea what they are talking about telling you what to do at what you do best.
Being the boss means you know best even if you don’t and that you are the expert! Of course you have to become the expert until you really do know best otherwise you won’t stay in business. As the boss of the my San Diego Window Cleaning company, I decide what jobs to take or turn down. Unlike popular belief, the customer is not always right, at least not in my business. If I have a customer who is being difficult I drop them and never go back. However that has been few and far between since most people are glad to have your services. Once you have worked with lots of different customers you begin to tell which jobs you should walk away from. Ninety nine percent of the time you will have great customers and once you learn to recognize which ones won’t be great you can avoid them, but you can’t do that when you work for someone else.
